Cutting Board Care Instructions
Your recognition cutting board will last for years with proper care and conditioning.
Cleaning:
Hand Wash: Use a warm, damp cloth to clean both sides evenly.
Avoid Submersion: Do not soak in water or use a dishwasher—this can cause warping and cracking.
No Detergent: Avoid dish soap, as it strips the board's oil.
Drying: Wipe dry with a clean cloth and stand the board on its edge to allow air circulation.
Oiling:
Use Food-Grade Oil: Apply butcher block oil or mineral oil generously to all surfaces, including grooves, grips, and handles.
Frequency: Start oiling within the first week of use and reapply as needed, especially to dry spots.
Benefits: Oil repels food particles, liquids, and prevents staining, cracking, and warping.
Optional Waxing:
After oiling, apply a food-grade wax (e.g., butcher block wax or beeswax) to create a moisture barrier.
Allow the wax to soak overnight by standing the board on its side.
Storage:
Store flat in a dry area, away from extreme temperatures.
Preventing Warping:
Keep the board dry and oil frequently.
Note: Warping can still occur due to factors like humidity or wood type.
Display Use:
If used for display only, oil at least once a month.
